Victims of the last rocket attack on London were commemorated at a JEECS event on March 29 at Hughes Mansions in Vallance Road in Stepney, 70 years after the tragedy that left 134 people dead.
The V2 rocket struck Hughes Mansions at 7:21 am on March 27, 1945. Of the 134 victims, 120 were Jewish. Forty-nine people were seriously injured. The final V-2 landed on Orpington High Street a few hours later, killing one person.
Some 20 people took part in what turned out to be a very moving ceremony in the pouring rain to remember the dead and injured.
